“The spotlight will always be on me, but it’s something I’m learning to live with as the years go by.”
David Beckham's Biography
David Beckham is a retired English soccer player who made his name playing for Manchester United in the Barclay’s Premiere League and for the England national team. He played for many successful teams over the course of his career, including Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and LA Galaxy, and is the first English player to win championships in four countries: England, Spain, the United States, and France.
Beckham’s success as a soccer player has made him a cultural icon, and has inspired numerous tributes, including the 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham (named in reference to his ability to score from free kicks by curling the ball to a seemingly impossible degree). He is married to Victoria Beckham, formerly Posh Spice of the British pop group The Spice Girls.
Like most elite athletes, Beckham has never made a habit of drinking very much. But in his retirement, that hasn’t stopped him from taking on a promotional role for Haig Club, a single grain scotch whisky with some pretty unique packaging. Though he’s a recent convert to scotch, he says that it reminds him of his grandfather, who used to enjoy an occasional dram.
