Bernie Sanders's Biography

Bernie Sanders is an American politician who became a household name during his run for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. As an independent Senator from Vermont who identifies as a democratic socialist, Sanders initially seemed an unlikely candidate. But his progressive message resonated with a large swath of the Democratic electorate—particularly young voters—and he made a strong showing as the only major challenger to the eventual nominee, Hillary Clinton.

Never one to focus on frivolities like food and drink when there’s policy to be discussed, Sanders hasn’t spoken much on record about his favorite alcoholic beverages. But it seems likely that he’s a fan of craft beer, given that he was spotted on a campaign stop brandishing a can of Heady Topper, one of the most coveted double-IPAs in the world.

This garnered him plenty of accolades from the beer nerd community (and, we’re sure, plenty of criticism from others), and the image quickly spread around the internet. Though we can’t say for sure if Bernie’s fridge is stocked full of local craft beer, he certainly knows how to pick one for a photo op.
